Back to Guide How to Use ⚖️Why Use This Guide 💬FAQ
Two ways to find schools
Browse with the filters and map, or just ask in plain English — by typing or speaking.

🤖 Ask the Assistant — type it or say it

At the top is a box, "Ask the Assistant." Type your question and press Search →, or tap the 🎤 mic and say it — your words fill the box and the search runs automatically.

It answers only from this guide's data — no made-up schools or grades — and the cards it shows always match the schools it names.

About the microphone 🎤
1

Tap to talk

The mic listens only after you tap it (it turns red), then stops on its own. It's never listening otherwise.

2

It speaks your language

It follows your chosen language — English or Español. Switch with the language menu at the top.

3

Privacy

Your browser handles the speech; the guide doesn't record or store audio. If your browser doesn't support voice (e.g. Firefox), the mic won't appear — just type.

💡 No mic button? Your browser may not support voice, or you may need to allow mic access. You can always type instead.
Example searches to try
Speak or type any of these — mix and match area, grade, type, and needs.

📍 BY AREA

"Schools in Bellevue" "Elementary schools near Antioch" "Charter schools in East Nashville"

🏫 BY TYPE

"Private schools in Green Hills" "Magnet high schools" "Montessori schools"

🎓 BY GRADE / CHILD

"Best elementary for my rising 3rd grader in Antioch" "Middle schools in Donelson"

✅ BY NEED

"Free schools with bus service" "Schools that accept EFS vouchers" "Schools on a WeGo route"
💡 "Best" means different things — academics, distance, cost, community. Say what matters (e.g. "good academics close to home") and the assistant weighs results that way.
Reading a school card
What you're looking at, top to bottom.
A

Type & area badges

School type (Zoned, Magnet, Charter, Private, Pre-K) and part of town.

B

TN grade & proficiency

The state's A–F grade (2024-25) and proficiency. Private/Montessori schools have no state grade — expected, not missing data.

C

Badges

Quick markers: 🚌 Bus, 💰 Free, 📋 Application / 🚶 No application, 🎓 EFS, 🚏 WeGo.

D

Demographics & socioeconomics

A neutral one-line profile: race/ethnicity, the low-income (economically disadvantaged) share, and Title I status — context to judge fit, never a ranking. Tap Details for the full breakdown.

E

Details & Compare

Details → opens the full profile; + Compare adds it to a comparison.

Comparing schools side by side
1

Add up to 4

Click + Compare on up to four cards; a compare bar appears.

2

See them lined up

Open it to view grades, cost, transportation, and key facts side by side.

3

Swap any time

Remove a school from the bar to swap in another.

Browsing with filters & the map
1

Filters

Narrow by type, neighborhood, grade level, and TN grade, plus quick toggles (bus, free, application, EFS, WeGo).

2

Grid or Map

Switch between the card grid and a city map.

3

Childcare & Glossary

Tabs switch to 405 licensed daycares or a plain-language Glossary.

Reading it in your language

Use the language menu at the top to read the guide in English or Español (Arabic coming). Your choice also sets the language the mic listens in.

Still have questions? See the FAQ or report a data error. Always confirm zoning, deadlines, seats, and current grades with each school before enrolling.
